This week sees the eve mattress making its artistic debut at London’s prestigious Frieze art fair held in Regent’s Park 14th – 17th October.
Eve is in attendance as part of former architects turned art collective ÅYR’s Frieze Project – a not-for –profit section of the world-famous art show which showcases up and coming artists, offering their own take on the art world and the fair.
ÅYR’s installation is based around the ‘Smart Home’, and the collaboration between cutting edge interior design and technology companies and features 6 ‘bedrooms’. Part chill-out zone, part critique of the hyperconnectivity of the smart home, weary guests are invited to charge their phones from chargers hanging from the beds whilst also having a recharge themselves, relaxing on beautifully printed eve mattresses. The installation’s lights even respond to Twitter hashtags!
Frieze London was originally orchestrated by Damien Hirst back in 1988. Today it is recognised as one of the world’s leading art fairs and has become THE cultural event on any art lover’s calendar. This week alone has seen Dior’s creative Director Raf Simons (apparently a huge fan, often incorporating works into his own designs) and R.E.M. front man Michael Stipe wandering throughout the fair.
So if you feel like your cultural horizon needs expanding then get yourself down to Frieze before Saturday for a truly great exhibition. And when you feel like you need a recharge, just look out for eve!
