Feel that you’re only getting 39 of your 40 winks? Celebrate World Sleep Day with eve.
When you think about it, it seems crazy that we spend A THIRD of our entire lives copping Zs. To put that in to perspective, if a person were to live to the grand old age of 80, that would mean they’d have racked up an average of 233,600 hours in the sack. That’s one heck of a lie in. But of all those hours, how many of them are actually spent in a deep, quality sleep?
Even though “You can sleep when you are dead” seems to be a mantra of days gone by, with new research revealing British adults are in fact getting the National Sleep Foundation’s recommended seven to nine hours of rest each night, it seems to be the quality of our time spent between the sheets that is a growing concern, with an increasing number of Brits experiencing poor quality and lack of deep sleep.
In our poll of 5,000 adults we uncovered that we are a nation who struggle to switch off from daily life when our head hits the pillow. 40% of the population cite stress at work and the pressure to keep up with social media activity as factors that heavily impact on the quality of their sleep. It has become such an issue that seven in 10 Brits admit to skipping breakfast so they have time to log on first thing in the morning.
Maybe this is the reason why so many of us hit a wall during the day. Whether it be as early as the morning commute; nodding off on the shoulder of a stranger, or later on in the day; sitting at our desks staring at our monitors with increasingly heavy eyes. Enter World Sleep Day – A day that champions quality sleep and battles against late afternoon lethargy. Of course, here at eve, we’ll be doing our bit too!
To raise awareness of the importance of quality sleep on World Sleep Day, eve will be parking our bikes up at the London Underground stations of Liverpool street, Angel and Camden Road from 7am to 10am, meeting with weary morning commuters and handing out a little something to brighten their day.
We’re also encouraging you to ‘Spot a sleeper’. By snapping a friend or colleague snoozing and posting your pic along with the hashtag #SleepSpotting you could be in with a chance of winning an eve mattress all of your very own!
